I hope these are better pictures for you of my granddaddy's old cane . I couldn't get my images to reload in the old post but anyways its a derby handle with gold collar with checkered design my grandfather carried it in the early 1900s and I was always told it was from mid to late 1800s ..was just wondering if anyone could confirm that..thanks for your time ..Mrs.suggs

To my eye it has a pretty modern look to it ...

I thought so too..but its identical to the one my grandfather has in his picture in 1932 .Now rather he carried it all the time I'm not sure or if he had another one hand carved just like the other I'm not sure of that either..so you wouldn't know who would've did the work or much else about it would you.I know he did own a lot of the older field and stream items..I believe that was the company

Thanks so much .I have some antique pocket knives I don't know much about either..you think if I pit them on here someone could tell me something about them and how to look them up and read HP on them I'm very curious as to when they were made what they may have been used for.etc..

Girl, you have a very nice cane sword ! Laws put them into the shadows by the very, very early 1900's. In my experience, they seemed to be popular in the last half of the 19th century . Really a nice one. Because of laws against defending yourself or family, they faded out as the streets were being turned over to criminals . Hey, tell it like it is !!

PS : Before you start carrying that around, it is considered a concealed weapon. You aren't allowed to interrupt those criminal's chosen occupation ! You go to jail instead of them & they will probably sue you !! LOL!!

Lol..@blunderbuss2..isn't that the Truth.. I have no doubt in my mind that they would and I would be thrown in or under the jail while they remain out here carrying everything I own off to sell..hahaha..and thank you so much I love this cane as much as my granddad who carried it which I no doubt believe its why it is in such good condition..he likely had no choice but to keep it in great condition as you said god forbid you protect yourself or your family....
