I found this little pitcher in one junk shop. It looks to me like a proper Victorian glass jug. The top is probably pewter (?), it has a patina. The bottom of the glass shows some wear, albeit not too much. I'm not an expert despite I love everything old. I would like to know is it a real antique item or one of the Chinese fakes? I read somewhere the Chinese love manufacturing old looking English pottery and glass and sell them as a real antiques.

      For me it is genuine!
The metal part was not glued in old times but "sealed" with a white material (a mix of organic glue and kind of plaster).
You may check what can be seen from inside the neck.

Thank you Kyratango. I noticed between the glass and a metal is some kind of whitish-grey dusty layer. So this must be that white material. I thought it's a dirt.

      Good news! It is old!
Don't let it soak in warm water, it would dissolve the "glue" and the handle will come apart...

Kyratango, I noticed somebody already did this, because when I acquired it looked like that 'dirt' were seeping out between the metal and glass. But thank god it still holds nicely. I never wash any of my old items, only once I tried this with one pottery vase. It soaked up the water and ever since it hasn't looked the same.
