This piece has been sitting in a locked container at Urban Ore for months now with a high price on it. finally, someone removed it today and i offered them $5, and took it home! it looks handmade, and is well-signed and dated on the bottom. there's got to be an interesting story here, but i don't know anything about it yet. there's a couple of repairs on it, but they aren't bad.
oops! it's been slip-cast, not exactly hand-built.
It's fantastic! Hope you find out more.
Yes, wearing pajamas/nightwear! I think they're great.
There should be a candle in that candlestick holder in the woman's hand. The company went out of business in 1968. I didn't see any other images of these figures.
Doesn't their pose look reminiscent of a wedding-cake topper? Couple linked by arms walking down the aisle...wonder if this was a gag / grooms' cake thing from way back when. So cool!
brayton laguna produced some really interesting pieces around this time - late 30s/early 40s. i found this same one which was produced in 1945, but not nearly the quality of this early one. one of their most popular pieces for collectors is called 'the hillbilly wedding'.
when hillbillies had style ;-)
