Some Civil war relics! The button is a union button. With a shield on the eagles chest, The back reads "Extra Quality"

The bullets are for the most part unkown.

Id like to know more about these! Must have been dropped trying to load?

Oh Cool! Must have all been misses. I wonder how the button ended up?

Dropped or miss-- they show no indication of an impact.

Cool! Thanks for the info guys! You think that button just rotted off a body?
    4. scottvez scottvez, 14 years ago
The button most likely fell off of a uniform.

It is a typical dug camp find.

The down side is there are places where you can still find these Mini=balls in this state.............new................same for the buttons..................re-enactment groups are all over the country and more so in the south. Sorry but these could be very neew, it would take lab testing to prove them actually old.

      These all look period.

Few reenactors carry mini balls with them-- it is a huge liability issue at an event.

I would be interested to know if loose bullets can ever be positively authenticated without some kind of records or provenance. If you had a bullet mold and some lead you could make bullets all day long. I have some lead bullets that I bought new in the 70s that have about the same oxidized patina now. (1970s ...I'm not that old)

Three ringed Minie Balls are most likely union.
