This German helmet was brought back by a Sherman tank crew member. The vet's relative told me the helmet was taken from a KIA German soldier who was a member of the Hermann Goring Division. The chinstrap was cut with a pocketknife, and taken off the soldier's head. I don't know if this is true or not, but the strap has a nice clean cut, and there appears to be dried blood on the leather liner. This is a single decal Luftwaffe M 42 helmet, which was easier and cheaper than the M 40 model helmet.
Wow! blood! Definitely something you dont see on most helmets. Very cool!
a dna test would be nice, might even find out who really wore it :) just a thought, nice piece
