Kurata Glass seemed to have pushed the boundaries as far as style and technique goes and this vase is certainly interesting.

Made from an odd blush pink over a white inner, the bottom half has had the addition of black grid lines.
Both the top and bottom half have been silvered (probably with mica) but the bottom has been given an extra sprinkle.
The whole vase has then been sandblasted.

It's growing on me aesthetically and I am impressed with it generally.
I have thought it before but this vase reinforces my idea that Kurata made their own glass colours.

If anyone has ever seen anything like this before please tell me.
I would be interested to know if the Kurata craftsmen worked this out on their own!

Unusual Karen...sort of pineapple like. Echoes the style of ceramic pieces that have basket work encasing them. Slip proof grip for sure....a water bottle for the tea ceremony maybe ??

It is unusaul. From a distance it sort of looks like it has a net around the base. I do really like this though. Just wish I knew more about glass.

Thanks Mike. It is quite smooth to touch and the lines are not raised at all.
      It is unusual! Thanks.

Don't start on glass Scott......it is an abyss! Glad you like it. Thanks.

Ta Dean - I'll try to keep rolling.

Hi Aims - so great to hear from you! Have missed you...hope things are OK.

      Thanks Rose.

      Thanks too Blade.
Generally Japanese glass is unknown and under appreciated in the West. There is little information available in English on it and I have worked hard to get the info I have, with lots of hours trolling the net, trying to work with Google translate (which is pretty bad).
I have made it my mission (yep, mission!) to spread the word on Japanese glass :)
