I bought this chest for cheap from a garage sale and was just curious as to what this is. I know absolutely nothing about this chest other than it is not in the best condition... Anyone have any input? Thank you! It is a flat top.

Post a pic of the entire thing. Round to or flat top? We need more info! A full picture is a good start.

It is a flat top shipping trunk from the around 1900 to the 1920's or so based on the interior fabric pattern ,lid lifter latches etc.More than likely canvas covered .More than likely had an interior tray . This was a very common trunk made by the thousands,by multiple manufacturers. Without a label it is very hard to tell. These were made during the industrial era. The slats are hardwood , not necessarily oak but ash or elm. It does have nice features ,that will refinish well. the two metal bands with 3/8 rivets and the corner hardware has a cool detail.I have tended to see this style of trunk(With these metal bands) in the upper midwest mostly,(Dakotas, Montana etc.)It has a really good Corbin lock as well .Much luck with it thanks for the post.
