Picked this old Atha tool up at an estate sale. Love it, but wish I knew what it was used for. Flat side looks hatchet like, but it has a channel running through it. Can't find anything like it online. Thanks for the help!
Obviously this is put on something, probably metallic, & hit on the back with a hammer. What for, I can't figure out. Too well made to not be mass produced. Bon chance
Thanks blunderbuss2!
The hammer is to tighten rings on wine barrels .the reason the head is rolled a bit ,it's from being hit with a small hand sledge hammer. It came in a set.
Ahhh ... Thanks Alexxx3006!
Do these usually have such a straight wide head since barrel hoops are curved ?
The one I have is 1 5/8 wide ,the slot is double the width of the of the thickness of the barrel ring which probally makes up for it.
Roofing Hatchet, used when working with Cedar shingles.
barrel stabs...hmmmm
disregard my first comment, didn't look closely at photos
I posted a pic of mine
Alexxx3006, thanks! It's nice to know what it is used for!
