Trying to find out if this is a common tourist doll or something more special. What I know is that it appears handsewn, The face is handpainted with what appears to be glass eyes and pearl teeth. Even her baby has hand painted facial features. Her beads are strung like a real necklace around her neck. She was purchased in 1938 in Mexico City for my mother by a family friend.
The detail is amazing. She has never been played with , but stored in tissue paper and a box.
Can anyone tell me if a company made these or if it is indeed a hand made doll?
She is beautifully done and it would have been made by a cottage industry for tourists , The quality is superior to most tourist dolls . A Treasure but would be hard to say who made her but they had a mold they could stretch fabric over so I am sure she was not the only one made and she was made more in style of the dolls of the period with teeth and glass eyes unlike the just painted features on most found . There are some great artists in Mexico .
