This bottle came as part of a big lot of old bottles i got at a garage sale. When i inspected it, it turned out it has holes in the wooden cork and the bottom. There's a small loose piece of wire inside which i can't get out. What can be the purpose of this bottle? A lamp base? Any ideas how old the bottle is? The color is stunning, but the bottle doesn't feel to be very old overall. Thank you for any comments.
The hole in base was likely after it was shipped out from its maker.
It is in an odd colour, but some-- interestingly-- olive oils came in fancy bottles back in the day, and even now.
The bottle looks to be machine-made and non-American.
If mine, that pretty one would go in my kitchen display, which is currently packed up due to painting not long ago (Wouldn't match the colour at all, LOL.)
This bottle may have been hung at some point, as a decoration with the wire going through the bottle to secure it. I've seen hung bottles in some beach bars.
Spirit, thank you. It does look like the bottle contained something before it was "modified", i see some residue on the walls. The color looks spectacular in person, it's cobalt blue but very rich and deep. What makes it odd? Is it possible to tell what era it's from?
Deano, thank you for your comment. Yes, it's a likely possibility...or some sort of other decor idea. I don't think it would make a very practical lamp base as i initially thought =)
