A little blue swift to bait the sunny days ;-)
Marked 800 and bears the dragonfly maker's mark for
Meyle and Mayer.
Size is 2.3/8" or 6 centimeters long.
Kyratisation?
Only a few minutes enamel flaws and replaced the lacking eye (must have been a tiny red cabochon...) with an old rosecut diamond!
Seller listed it in costume, Victorian Edwardian brooch, only description was: Lovely!
:-D
For comparaison, this one is a bit larger, 2.75" :

Thank you for the loves, Aura, Caperkid and Newtimes and for your visit always appreciated :-)
Don't see birds too often, thats for sure, rather rare I imagine.
Not specially rare, but collectable though people prefer dragonflies :-)
Thank you Bladerunner :-)
Thank you Themuse for passing and loving my bluebird !
I love your brooch as always! What kind of enamel is this? I often see it in your pieces and it looks different from the types I have. Very beautiful it is.
Hi Elisabethan! It is matt enamel, as frosted :-)
It is much more convenient for naturalistic subject and was widely used in 1900 to 1920 pieces. On the bird, the silver is modelled as feathers you still can see through the velvetish enamel!
Thank you for asking, and for your kind comment :-)
Nutsabotas, thank you too for your appreciation!
Thankyou for the answer. Very clever. Don't know why I don't see it here in scandinavia. Hope I will in the future.
Of course I too would have a handy rose cut diamond, perfect size, to fix my jewellery. Doesn't everybody?
Great find KT!
Nice design and beautiful blue color, like it very much!
