Very cute little machines that come apart - interesting. Manufacturer is not known. If you take off the faceplate (the end cover with the tension dial) is there anything stamped under there?
I ALSO HAVE A CINDERELLA, HARD WORKING, BETTER THAN THE NEW MACHINES! DON'T KNOW ITS AGE OR ORIGIN, SORRY.
I just bought the same machine and haven't been able to find any info either. Nothing is stamped behind the face plate.
Tammy, Bernadette, Taffy & Mtngrl, I have the same machine, which my sister bought me about 20 years ago. I took it to have it serviced in order to use it. Mine still had the original European electric cord so I had them change it out so I could plug it into American outlets. When the repairman opened the machine to clean inside, he found a Swasticia which he said noted it was made in German prior to WWII.
I actually did find info on this machine. It was produced in Japan near the end of WWII and is a replica of a much older Singer type machine. Mine has been ripped down to the iron frame by my hubby and there is no swastika in it. I suspect that mark was put in yours by a Nazi supporter that worked in assembly.
Thanks for the info Mtngrl, Seems it was impressed into the steel on the underside of the throat but I can't really remember since it's been about 10-15 years ago. I appreciate you sharing what you found.
