I know nothing about this tool other than it is all aluminum except for the pin that holds the two parts together and it was part of my father-in-laws extensive tool collection. I don't know if any of this will help but he was an avid sailor, boat builder, pilot and snow skier who retired from Boeing in 1987 where he was an engineer in the "wing group" at Renton. He also owned several rental properties so for all I know this could have been something left behind by a renter. I've tried looking up the company A&T Seattle Washington USA whose name is on the handle and I got things like plumbers, an investment group, a Japanese pharmaceutical equipment company and many others none of whom were around before the US made the switch to a two letter state designation. We had two garage sales last summer and I put this out at both of them with a sign offering $5 to anyone who could ID it. Many people looked at it but I still have my 5 bucks.
It is a Ski rope tow/gripper, A&T, Anderson & Thompson.
Mystery solved, Thanks AzTom. It makes perfect sense, my father-in-law was a ski instructor for many years first at Stevens Pass and then at Crystal Mountain. Concidering how much ski gear he had I'm supprised we didn't find more than one.
