I posted my first ciccada brooch almost 3 years ago here on cw!
Such a long time ago! I know I love these fellows and I wanted to start a small collection of them, but lots of things happened and I must admit I never activly looked for any of them since...
But a few days ago this lovely fellow crossed my path, and I m sure he s very happy to meet his cousins at my jewelry cabinet! ;-)
So again, plastic, made in the sixties, probably French.
The small one is probably also French but a bit newer, like seventies.
The silver one is Victorian. I posted them all here on Cw, but now with the new addition.
Hope you like them!
What's the story behind ciccada brooches? when was it popular and how did it come about? Is the ciccada a symbol for something somewhere? I have no relation to them so I'm qurious.
Those bugs are great!
The ciccada is a good luck charm in France. I have an aunt in Marseille, and when I visit her and the surrounding Provence, you find everywhere the image of ciccada: on walls, on pottery, and even jewelry as you can see. In the Provence, everywhere you walk, you can hear ciccada make their "chirping" sound, sothats why they became the symbol of Provence/ France as a country.
Ksss kss kssss... Provence summer memories...
Love them, of course ;-))
Yesss lots of happy memories! Think we will be back this summer ;-)

Here they say art de o, but I dont believe it...the closure looks newer, more like sixties
Art deco that is...
Thanks for the love everyone!
