here's some more interesting old photos. the one w/ the flag and the young people says on the back 'You, Mary Wells and me. Boys worked at State School for Blind while ????? and mother fed them.' can anyone make out that one word? thanks!
the photo in the upper left of the first set looks like an early touring bus to me.
The word looks like "building" to me. Great photos!
Those are fantastic old photos, love em!

I would think it means during the construction of the building.

The photo at the bottom right (photos #1 and #2) shows a Union soldier with the children. He is wearing a nine button frock-- can see the large buttons and cuff trim.
It also appears to be a post civil war copy image of a war era image. The odd edges and circular object (pin or nail) to the top right are typical of copy images.
It is a great shot.
