Flea market find (don't worry, she did not cost me much $)... Body is more or less completely decimated. The seller said that she got wet at some point, but she also appears to have been crushed. I would like to note that I would have taken better photos (i.e. no dress whatsoever) but my mother is the one who has the doll and took the photos, we live in different states... So, I am afraid that these are the best photographs that I can provide for now.
Anyways, I was wondering if anyone could help me with an identification for this doll and/or provide a little information of any kind?
I am not interested in value, as obviously, the doll is pretty much destroyed, save for the head. Just want some background on it, is all. I will be restoring her body at some point (maybe sooner than planned, judging by how "crumbly" she looks).
***TWO NEW PHOTOS ADDED***
Here's all I know, thus far:
*Dolly face (?)
* No markings that my mother can see. Though, she did note that on the back of the head/neck area that there are two indentations, like: two little dots, but no inscription above or below them.
*German? (since her ears aren't pierced?)
*Doll is 16 inches tall, but its head is sunken down because the wooden
socket fell through. So I estimate that she's probably more like 17"-18" in
actual height?
*Paper Mache body and it appears that the upper limbs are wooden, but the lower limbs are paper mache(?)
* Straight wrists
* Inset eyes
* 6 rounded teeth (this must be significant, surely? my reference books keep noting the number of teeth in the descriptions)
* Weird legs where they meet the hip (older body style?)
*My mother seems to think that the top of the doll's head is totally flat and solid on the top, like a Frankenstein head. I don't know if this is because she is missing a pate and perhaps that is not the original wig or if it's part of the design? I can't confirm the flat head feature, until I have the doll here with me and I remove the wig. Thought it worth the mention anyways.
Any information and help is very much appreciated. Thank you.
I can not tell you who made with out seeing back of neck . The mark is there either below the body since head is sitting low or under hair either on back of neck. I can say she is German and on the later cheap body . I would guess she is a Armand Marsille but could be any number of companies . Dolly face do have 6 teeth as rule sometimes depending on size of mouth they don't show . So teeth are no clue to maker , She has to take a photo of her neck and down on shoulder under body . There is a mark there and should say Germany also . Her wig looks original and maybe pate which is weak broke or she had wig off to see opening in head , The head may have damage under wig hard to know from the photo . You tried to explain her well but need the mark it is most important thing to know . If she can send you a photo of back of head and tell her to look below broken compo torso too .
The doll is shipping out tomorrow from California to me in New England and I should have it in a few days or so. Unfortunately, she's already packaged and ready to go. I will post a new picture, and more data (if possible) to this forum as soon as I get her in. :)
Thank you for all your help! You have been positively wonderful and so informative.
PS: One of these days, I'm going to post a picture of a doll for actual "show & tell" and not for identification purposes... (sorry, I'm a "newb").
I am always glad to help but sometimes more info is needed . I will be watch for new photo's and it is never a problem for me to help so don't feel like your a newbie your one of us :-) oh and German and French dolls both had pierced ears :-) It will be easy to ID her with markings , and looking at her close up she is a socket head doll so missing shoulder plate and can see stringing is not old so seems she may have been put on a different body or restrung wrong for her head type as her shoulder plate was apparently broke that sat on outside of body at top and crushed torso .
I have to add she may not have had a shoulder plate but since head is so far down into body likely because with her head strung tight and torso got wet it pulled head into doll by tension .
A body like yours

Thanks Manikin! I will update this when the doll comes in. Should probably be about a week until it's here. Hopefully, I will have some more information for you :D
Two new photos added, as per your request :)
