This desk I found recently at a flea market and I believe it's a Davenport. The only thing is the carvings on it are slightly different then any I've found online but that's the only difference. I'm going to begin restoring it here soon. It's so sad what people do to antiques. I have the lid also, I'm currently repairing it. The second picture is the inside, the only marking I found was the drawer numbers and this is is only way at the moment to see what the wood looks like underneath. Can anyone tell if this is infact a davenport, and know how to pinpoint a year?
That's something I would really love in my house. Its distinctive an impressive piece.
You'll have a big work to strip off the paint! I wonder what wood is under it, but it would look beautiful I guess!
What a shame to paint such pieces...
The shape is what is referred to Davenport desks.
Doe's it have coasters, if yes what material?
The hinge seems pretty modern, but could be a replacement.
Looks like a modern version of an apothecary desk with a mixing top.
It is a beautiful piece. I haven't seen one like it. Personally I would strip it. But love it how ever you want to love it. GREAT find!
It would look like this one after stripping :-)
