My husband knew I had fallen in love with this vase, and, as sweet as he is, it ended up being my Christmas present this year. It is honestly like a little jewel to me - the colors are so rich and gorgeous, and it is the smallest Baccarat vase I have, standing at only 7" tall. It has the typical finely ground Baccarat base, and interestingly, the deep pink is a color I have seen in quite a few of Baccarat's vases from this time period (approximately 1880). It is quite unusual to see in other maker's work. It really claims attention on our mantle, and I can't help looking at whenever I walk by - I am very pleased to be able to share it here with you.

Hi Sean, thanks so much! It is not signed, but has the following attributes I have seen in other signed Baccarat vases of this period - the type of opaline glass, the large perfectly round ground pontil, the mottled deep green main body color, the style of the enamel work of the bird and flower, and the colors used.

Sure thing! Most people do know them for their crystal work (thanks for the lovely example!); their enameled opaline pieces are very little known by most people, I think. I didn't know about their other glass work until almost a year ago. The more I discovered about their early opaline pieces, the more I was intrigued. They can be quite distinctive, and very beautiful.

Your very welcome Michelle !!!! its really hard to pin point their opaline pieces if they don't don't have the paper label not being marked as well or documented to. and their opaline pieces are much thicker and heavier as well.

Wow. So beautiful. I really adore the uneven green ground and the punch of the pink.
What a lovely gift! (lovely man)

Thank you, racer4racer - that is what I love about it as well! And the color combination is so unexpected (to me, anyway) for a vase that is about 140 years old, too!

Thanks, Rick! It is all the shades of mossy, isn't it? :) It will be especially nice to look at when our dry California summer returns!

I just wanted to add that I found the same shape as this vase in an etched Baccarat carafe with a stopper; my vase doesn't appear to have any ground down area within the neck, so I don't believe my particular version had a stopper.
