      The handle has been whipped with wire and bound with what looks like electrical tape which is quite common. Sorby has a web site and can probably answer your questions if you contact them with pictures ( right side up for the print). Sorby is expensive but worth the money if you work with tools.

      fhrjr2, thank you for the reply.
      I have noticed that the wire acts like a spring when sliding the tang into the slot of the handle and the tape is much thicker and stronger then electrical tape but is no doubt added after the fact.
