I collect the nice brocade clad metal Sherman boxes that a lot of the jewellery came in. I show it with the last large pin that I bought, although the pin is too high to fit in the box, as it has a multitude of levels. A lot of these boxes were not used, as the jewellers liked to put the pieces in their own boxes which advertised their store, although jewellery stores usually had an inferior box made of cardboard.
Sherman used a small multitude of beautiful fabrics, mostly brocades, to cover the boxes and inside there is a white silk lining with the words "Jewels of Elegance by Sherman."
There are 2 sizes for these boxes, and fierce bidding for some. I think the highest I paid was almost 200 for the very large box in excellent condition. The smaller ones go for around 100, but that can go higher at times for a rarer fabric.
Gorgeous box and I can imagine rare to find one like it . The boxes I see are mostly black :-) Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the love vetraio50, Nicefice, and mikelv85, I appreciate you stopping by.
Thanks Manikin for the comment. Yes, most of the ones offered are black and this one has the more rare colourful silk brocade in pink. Quite rare.
Wonderful post, thanks for sharing!
