This is one another one of my collection of three. The lithograph inside is perfect. There is a envelope attached to one side that states the name of a lady who was staying at The Lexington hotel in Chicago Illinois.
Which makes this trunk even more alluring in my opinion.
The back hinge needs some repair. I am Magent spruced up this would be stunning. No tray. Where can I find out more information about the images that are in the side of the lids of these trunks. Could this image possibly be of the owner of the trunk? Thank you for your help.
The envelope is affixed to the outside looking f the chest. And the lithograph inside looks very much like perhaps a gypsy.

The envelope is affixed to the outside of the truck and states charges paid. There is a small tear over the name. But I think I could find this by the address cross references by the census. The fact that the envelope stayed in touch all these years is pretty amazing in itself.

Lovely Dome top trunk -- and the label is fantastic, and looks to be about as old as the trunk itself so I would surmise that the name would be of the original owner. There were many lithographs made for these trunks -- often of pastoral scenes or beautiful ladies. Hard though to track down who made them. There are a few trunk sites that have some collected for information. The trunk business was huge and therefore copious quantities of lithographs to choose from. Good luck with the hunt!

ps. The "I am magnet" typo is pretty funny... good old spell check!

Nice looking trunk, kind of a different lock too. Should clean up pretty nice for you.

I don't think the lithographs were made to order like that but who knows, if you have the money anything is possible I suppose. There are a couple of guys that crop up here from time to time that have really done their homework so if you're lucky they will be able to tell you something about them. You might try googling antique trunk lithographs, or some such thing, and see what you can find. There is all kinds of info out there if you have the time to look.

I did a search about the Lexington hotel. I thought that was a familiar or prominent hotel. Sure enough the more wealthy and privileged people, were there as guests. Hoping the envelope helps give a more precise date. From the envelope I think perhaps is towards the earliest and opening years. It was indeed the home to Al Capone and the home front of all his business and scandals. So amazing to actually place this trunk there. So exciting to imagine the scene of the times. Wild parties and raids. Al Capone actually called for the services of psychic Alice Britt. Just like the gyspy in the litho. Would really like to find more info on This litho. Stunning.

Neat looking hotel with a cool history. Great question.. If custom Lithographs were an option? Not really sure. I know that there were many different lady images and Some were more popular than others. This particular one I have not seen before. That is not to say that it is one of a kind though. Maybe: Miss...(Fill in the Blank) 372 Elmwood place could tell you more. Much luck and thanks for the post.

      Thank you all.
The Lexington Hotel was built in 1892.

I have one similar to yours with the same lock but mines has a picture of a lady on a sailboat and my cross- slat runs the same way from front to back. Nice trunk you have. Do you have the key to the lock?

I just purchased a similar trunk. The insides are a mess, but the outside is in great condition, just needs a cleaning. My locking mechanism is the same and I would love to find a key or at least begin looking for one by knowing the lock manufacturers name. Do you have a key for yours? If so, please post a pic of it so I can look for my own.
