Picked up this WWII German M42 Helmet off ebay today! Contains some of the original paint. Going to be awhile before I receive it. It was dug from some woods near the town of Narva Estonia. (Battle of Narva) I'm sure this helmet seen combat. This is my First WWII German helmet. I'v been wanting one of these for along time.
Id say its a pretty solid relic helmet. Solid front, Back, Rims.
Just the top has some minor rust holes.
Let me know what you guys think!
Id like to know more. I know there was an Estonian league that fought in German Uniforms I believe? Is there a way to confirm weather it was a Estonian league helmet or a German helmet?
check out manions.com nice buy :)
The 3rd Estonian SS Volunteer Brigade was formed in 1944. On May 25th,1944 it was renamed the 20. Waffen- Grenadier -Division der SS. On January 23rd, 1944 it had been renamed once again. It was now the 20th Estonian SS volunteer Division. There were also army volunteers from Estonia. The Estonians fought on the Eastern front.
The Waffen SS Estonians had their own collar insignia, and some helmets may have had some type of insignia painted on by an individual soldier, but there was no use of decals as far as I know. Since there is no evidence of this on your helmet, I would say it is a standard M-42 German army helmet. I hope this helps. Check out german-helmets.com. It is very informative.
Thanks for the Info Stepback! For some reason I didnt get the email that you commented :( Sorry for the delay, Say, I'm in touch with a guy in the UK, He emails me when he picks up German helmets. Id like for you to take a look at them, at the decals. So this was all the same unit, just got renamed a bunch of times basically?
