This is to me a very strange odd fishing lure. I found in a tackle box I bought at an estate sale. It is a squishy plastic. 1 1/2 inches long. I thought it was one used with dipping baits, but no doesn't open.

I think I still have some of these somewhere. They were useless. They came out in different colors in packs of 5 or 10 back in the 1980's. They were sold more in department stores like Ames than in sporting goods shops. I know I have some of the wooden version with a single hook and feathers. They were useless also.

Called a "popper" because it pops along the surface of the water as the fisherman retrieves the lure in a jerking movement. They were usually, but, not always, used with a fly rod and reel. They are real killers on large and small mouth bass and bluegills can't resist striking them. Thank you for posting

Cool thanks everyone, I might take this to the pond by the house and play around with it.

Hotairfan is correct, they were intended for use with a fly fishing set up.
