These vases from Japan are attractive, well made and often attributed to Davidson or Whitefriars.
They came in a large variety of colours, some mixed, some plain, cased and uncased. All have a nicely moulded bark like texture.
The square versions here are all from the same factory, no doubt.
The hexagonal vase is most likely from the same factory. It has a similar depth birdbath base and the textured pattern ends about the same depth from the rim.
I suspect the round vase is also from the same factory but am not certain. The texture is very similar, as is the blue colour, however the base is differently finished.
These vases were generally sold under the name Best Glass.
Who made them? I am pretty sure it was Tajima Glass, that powerhouse of Japanese moulded glass.
They made similar birdbath based glass in other, identified (by me) forms. The pale blue vase here is labelled TG and the square vases merely Made in Japan. TG is a Tajima label (for Tasty Glass!)
I am still trying to confirm the darker blues as Tajima.
These vary in height from 17cm to 18cm (about 6.5in)
Beautiful colors and texture....They do look "tasty". Like a freeze pop on a hot Summer day. :)
Mikelv is right, yummy looking vases!
Really great looking vases Karen!
Icy poles -just what is needed - we have had a run of 40C days here.
Thanks Mike.
Thank you too KT! And Scott! Great to hear from you.
Your taste runs so similar to mine Karen with your love of texture. I love all three but the red one... gorgeous!
Just fabulous! Don't ever take your posts down, it's like a museum of Japanese glass with the informative cards on each one. Oh and I heart these vases so much!!! :)
Yeah texture is a great thing - gives a special edge to anything I think. You are rigth about the red one, in the flesh it is way better than the rest. Thanks Rick!
Katherine I don't know much really but I might as well share what I know!
How did you get to be such a sweetie?!
You make it very easy, Karen!
I have an amber one ... very nice it is too
The turquoise is just lovely.
