I bought the pair last year from a second hand shop for $8.00. These are the smaller versions, being just seven inches high. Both are stamped "ITALY" at the base of their feet. There are several versions of these fighting birds. Not positive what kind of metal was used.
Thanks for looking, CW friends!
Woah! "I tell you I saw that silver ring at $0.5 first!" ;-D
Great pair Bonnie!
I love these!! Just a beautiful pair of cockerels!! What a bargain you got on these! I've seen several pair out there in antique malls, but the asking prices were far more than I wanted to pay.
As far as the type of metal used in making these, most that I've seen have been silver plated brass.
jscott - I don't think these are silver plated. I can't find any evidence of wear which would expose the base metal.
The birds as promised! And worth the wait as they are wonderful, Bonnie! As far as metal used, my guess would be pewter. Love them, thanks for sharing. :)
