Calling on all jewelry connoisseurs here!
I've had these earring for a long time, i don't even remember where they came from, but most likely from one of the garage sale treasure hunts.
I'd like to know their approximate age. I don't know if it's possible to ID the maker, there are no marks on them of any kind. I don't even know if it's silver or alloy. Sorry for the quality of pics, the earrings are small so it was hard to take a close up shot.
Any information is much appreciated!
It's just about impossible to ID costume jewelry without a maker's mark. No silver markings usually means no precious metals. The leverback closure/style suggests the 1950s/1960s.
Thank you Efesgirl, it's helpful. Yes, i didn't hope to find the maker, but the approx age is a lead. I thought that judging by the way they look- their simple style and very simplistic almost primitive mold - they'd be older than mid-century but i really have no clue. I should get a magnifying glass and look closer to see if there's anything i missed =P
Pretty little sparkles :-)
I think they are older than mid century, rather before 1930.
This model is called "dormeuse" or sleeper, as the back to front ear wire construction is such that there is no discomfort if one were to sleep with the jewelry. As the front of the earring is directly attached to the lever back wire, there is not as much as a tab of pressure placed on the earlobes!
Kyra, thank you so very much! I did a quick search on antique "dormeuse" earrings, and they look so pretty and well made. This pair almost feels like it was handmade...the mold is irregular and imperfect, especially the back- any ideas why this can be? Maybe it was jewelry for those on a budget back then, for common folks? Less sophisticated, less precision, skill and artistry involved? ...
Valentino, thank you! They are 5/16" wide and 7/8" long from top of the wire to the bottom of the piece.
Nutsabotas, yes, they sure could LOL once i find out more about them i'll do it, i just don't want to ruin them without knowing what i'm doing.
