A good friend gave me this today! she found it a long time ago on the sidewalk next to the trash to be taken to the dump. it's enormous - 22" tall x 17" wide and not a scratch on it - but someone did paint it a royal blue at one point. the paint is coming off and i kind of like how it looks in this stage. it's a beautiful, bright orange underneath. it's bauer and the largest size they made, i think.
This is really nice Ho2. I have a piece of Zanesville pottery that has the same condition. Black over the burgundy color. I was looking at the bottom of this one. It has the same appearance as the tall blue arts and craft vase I posted a while back. Like an unglazed bisque. I wonder if mine could be Bauer as well. Is the bottom a way to ID them ? The only Bauer piece I have is a marked gravy boat. It appears they made garden pottery too. These large heavy pieces look like they were meant to be placed on a patio. -Mike-
I'm not sure mikelv85, but i have a lot of Bauer and none of them look like this, but i am certain that this is a Bauer oil jar. it's incredibly well-made! hence the condition.
I was looking at some Matt Carlton pieces I think your jar is on this page :)

thank you mikelv85! this is a very special pot! it's different from the newer ones which are still made. the older ones like this one have a very beautiful lip to them which is difficult to make in the molds. i'll try to get some better pics soon.
i decided to remove all the paint and i do like it better now. i really love this piece!
