My final posting from the fun garage sale in France. This solitary chair is a mystery piece... it was in the cellar of this man's house, but because of the torn seat, he didn't think it would sell and he didn't want to try to repair the intricacy of the weave. I've done a few searches, and the closest I've come is another expression of the Henri II revival period. Anyone know for certain?
I've seen other similar examples online, but none with the acorns atop the back.
Do I dare upholster the seat, or is this piece worth having the torn reed re-woven? Thank you!

Yep, same era! The finials could come in acorns, "toupie", volutes... Many variations
These were made in HUGE quantities, every home (except poors!) would have the whole dining set!
They are now of nearly no value on the market (I'm in France), and even less if only one...
You can have fun with it with patina, redo the seat in stuffed fabric on board...
The cost of having a manual woven seat done (generally those who make it are on weekly food markets here!) would exceed the value...

These big dark brown pieces are now used for parts as shown there:

I always loved these intricate sets, but far more too massive for my home

      Merci!
Interesting link, Kyratango. I too enjoy some of those larger pieces, but struggle with transport and finding space for them.

Hi Ray, thanks for the thanks!
Happily, beeing a hoarder, I don't buy furniture or things bigger than 20 cm square...
      :-D
I check vide-grenier.org when season is on, or when on holiday travels.
