Picked this car up s eventual years ago, I can find no identifying marks, looks similar to the Murray flat fronts. I'm not sure if it's a Murray or not or what model. The slit on passenger may be the clue, but I am coming up empty. I want to restore it this year, so I want to get right replacement parts. Thanx. G

You are correct, this is the Murray flat face car. I have not seen one on this model but the slot looks like it was for a shifter. Could have been added??
This model was made from around 1959 into at least the late 60's

Check several places for parts, prices can very a lot.

Thank you, I think the slot is factory, very well cut. I just noticed tha below slit there are also two "screw holes". I have contacted several restore shops in hopes they can help identify model.

It's a Murray for sure. They did make this same body in the later years with headlights up & down, and it did have the shifter. Maybe this is a transition car?? It was called Thunder Rod.

      Awesome, Thanx for info.

Yes I do believe you are correct, just found a Thunder Rod on an Auction site....gear shift is very similar to what is missing on my Murray.

Thanks for posting that. I have never seen a real Thunder Rod. I have only seen the catalog listing and have never seen even an ad for the shifter in your style pedal car.
I think that is the exact shift you will need, good luck with that, lol

It looks like your car has been painted, if so I would try washing the sides with Super Clean Degreaser. to see if you can get back to the original graphics. It comes in a purple gallon bottle available most parts stores.
Here is one I washed the paint off of. http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/174639-bmc-hook-and-ladder-pedal-car
I hope you stay around and post your finished car.

I will give that a try, yes it has been painted. It would be nice to find out what the original graphics were, looks like I have weekend project. Thanx for all your help AzTom.
