I notice the main difference between Loetz and "other" spiraloptisch seems to me to be a Celtic influence in Loetz and an interpretation thereof in "other". The Loetz seems to be more stone-like to me and the "other" less so. I haven't a link to show, but the sgraffito-like curves and spirals are very reminiscent of the carvings that were uncovered in Europe in the mid 1800s.
Whether Welz, Kralik or other, I am not sure but this shade of pink, I would say 80% Welz.

Only by taste and 'funfair' glass :)
Mine was spotted for me by Michelle who called it Welz. Also when compared with the similar Kralik shape you can see differences in the shape of the lobes and how they fit together. But enough......it's a lovely piece!

Welzebub did a post on Welz Spiraloptisch about two months ago..... including this very piece.

Not this *exact* piece I suspect unless the chip is a dead giveaway!

I am with Craig, but there is a discussion, so only fair to query it all. I am, after all only toddling.

I am thinking Newgrainge carvings - and who knows what other German ones? This is on the back of thinking Mycenae vases influenced handle shapes - a whole new avenue? Or revisiting an old one?

Ian, you perfectly voiced something I have always felt about the Loetz version of this decor - somehow it does remind me of early prehistoric stone carvings, but the Welz version doesn't elicit the same feeling from me. This version is a bit more flowing, so less lithographic, perhaps?

I disagree and am of the opinion that this was produced by Welz. The Kralik version of this shape, is similar, but different enough to tell them apart.
Having studied this for many years now, a small portion of my supporting research can be seen here:

I would add that I am of the opinion that both Welz and Kralik likely made versions of this decor, although I believe much more is Welz than Kralik.

There is a small group of people that have a huge problem with my Welz research. I prefer to just post my research and conclusions reached as a result of it, and let people decide for themselves. :-)

I was not implying at all that you had a problem with my work. I was only explaining why I post some of the things I do, so people can make up their own mind. I appreciate your input and comments.
