I am catalogueing my growing collection of some 375 Wedgwood jasper 11.2cm diameter trays. I would really appreciate anyone being able to tell me the year of the tray in the picture. It shows a seated Britannia holding a trident in her right hand and a sprig of laurel (?) in her left. A lion is at her feet. Below Britannia are the five Olympic rings. The whole is within a circlet surmounted by a Royal Crown . I am surmising that it is the emblem of a UK/British Olympic team - but which year?
I really would like to correspond with any other collectors of these Wedgwood trays. My email is muggles3@bigpond.com. My postal address is 95, Kerrisons Lane, BEGA, New South Wales 2550, Australia.
Is there a date on the back? These pin dishes, trays often have a date on the back. I must say I havn't seen this particular design. ( I love Wedgwood jasper ware and pick up the odd bits in charity shops quite often here in the UK.)
I found one on ebay and it's dated 1991. Description was " BRITISH OLYMPIC ASSOCIATION WEDGWOOD JASPERWARE ROUND TRAY J 14904Z 3914 with original box. This was acquired during the 97th International Olympic Committee IOC XCVII Session in Birmingham, United Kingdom in 1991". Hope that helps.,
Hi Adele, Thank you for your comments. How wonderful to be able to pick up Wedgwood in local antique shops - not much chance of that in Aus!!
The purchase date of 1991 would tend to indicate the 1992 games - unless they were clearing old stock. There is no date on the back - the back-stamp is the same as that which I have on dated trays from 1979 to 1992. If research turns up more info I will post here. If I can help with identifying any of these 11.2cm trays you may come across let me know here or email muggles3@bigpond.com
Thanks again Colin
