What do you think this is?! Mother In Law is a big doll collector, maker, repairer. She gave this to me but since I'm not that familiar I really don't know what I've got. It's not life size and came attached (taped) to a body but the bust is amazing! It's wax with inserted real (I think) hair and eyebrows, glass eyes. About 32"high total with body, bust alone is about 10" high. It's really quite beautiful. It was poorly taped to a body. I removed it carefully so I could get a better idea about what it was. There are no markings other than a scratched "76wp" into the front right shoulder.
So interesting and strange!
You must re order your images to put the number two in first position! For the moment only the base is shown on the show and tell board :-)
Welcome to CW!
Thanks! Will do
From where did your mother-in-law get this figure?
Cool... I would defiantly have a good time with that on Halloween! Unless it is worth big $$$$.
I know she bought it at a doll show and paid big $$$$ for it.
I thought the same thing..Halloween!
She is quite a master piece . I would love to see body as some of these were made as dolls and some were just busts for store display . You have a poured wax vs a wax over . Yes the hair and eyebrows are inserted by hand and are real hair . I am wondering because they made he a old woman she was not a doll but was molded to represent someone . Looks English or French style . Early 1900 . Beautiful glass eyes and wax dolls were some of the first dolls we find going back. One would not think wax would have held up and melted but they are pretty resilient . She is a expensive bust and never mind the Halloween some don't see the beauty of the sculpting and these are very collectible . Many of the early dolls were made as part of a creche including baby Jesus . I need to ponder why she is so old and who she represents . Can you post body please .
Just a random sample

She may have been on a base originally
Yes, I would never use as a halloween display, just kidding around because she is so life like and.. kind of spooky. After some research locally I thought maybe French mannequin but she is small, too small to display a hat or scarf or even jewelry. I also thought it looked almost like a replica of a person. She has a young face but old, grey hair, strange.
And I also thought it could have been on a base because the center post extends beyond the wax shoulders.
I believe she was on a base the round wood piece that is attached to eye brace would not be there on a doll.
If I decide to sell, should I sell separate from the body or together as a doll? I would give the body either way.
I guess i would put body in with her since she did wear it for awhile :-) I would call her a antique wax mannequin bust though but you can also say or wax doll as buyer might want her on body :-)
