In a search for antique jewelry comes naturally looking forward to finding a date, maker, etc. This means that you are simultaneously in the course of time more and more books of antique jewelry will gather with all kinds of topics. Two years ago I showed you see a book of the complete costume history. Because jewelry always be adapted in the course of history to the clothing worn at the time.
Right now I am in possession of no less than 48 books about antique jewelry in different languages. But of course most of it in English.
Actually it is until today not come to buy the most important book International Hallmarks on Silver Collected by Tardy. I'm glad I have now in my possession although paperback 2014.
To view the real antique jewelry collector cannot without good literature on this issue.
The finest book in my opinion for the beginner in this field:
Starting to Collect Antique Jewellry by John Benjamin.
Then in my opinion and of great help immediately follow:
    Tardy's hallmarks on silver
An illustrated Dictionary of Jewelry by Thames & Hudson
How to be a Jewelry Detective by C. Jeanenne Bell, G.G.
    and last but not least:
Cut steel and Berlin Iron Jewellery by Anne Clifford.

Of course there are countless other books on these and many other issues, but my intention with this post is to help other collectors with geodetic literature in this area

      Good idea Marga!
The Tardy book is an incomparable documentation!
Existing too for gold and platinum marks!
There is in it an analytic record for all the marks which allows to find the mystery hallmark :-)
Only have to determine if it is botanical, architectural, animal and so on.
Books are the basis for researching, Internet is very useful but not complete and finding the right keyword is a nightmare :-D

Kyra, again many thanks for your detailed comments and love. Obviously I totally agree with you. For books I would just like Tardy's gold hallmarks. Do you have any idea how I can get it?
