This wonderful scenic picture was found at a Goodwill. It appears that it is oil on paper and the framer has a non-reflective glass cover. This cover has made it very difficult for me to see the signature in the lower right corner. It is also my first oil on paper. The majority of the oils I have collected are either on board or canvas. If anyone can decipher the signature it would be appreciated. As well as, identify the scene. I would love to know. Thanks
It turns out that there was a paste from a label over the signature. I used a scraper and removed it and updated the image. Turned out my IPhone takes a better picture than the camera.
Hummm, This may be a Good one!! Style, Brush Strokes look amazing. Take it outside in natural light, use no flash, and see if you can get a better picture of signature. Play with it by tilting frame left right to get picture straight on signature. I have Collected Art for 30 yrs and got pretty good at deciphering signatures. Thanks
I took your advice dizzydave. I replaced the signature photo.
ok, I'll start working it out. Thx!!
Dizzydave, a few friends and I came up with a name; Melcher. The closest we could get is a Jan Hermanus Melcher Tilmes. Being that I am not a professional, there were a few paintings online that looked as if it could be the same artist. Dutch born 1847-1920.
Here is the sign for Melcher Tilmes.
