    Hi,
I rcently acquired this 2-volume set, "Le Verre: Art & Design" by Yves Delaborde, ACR publisher. Text in French. Published 2011.

Volume I is a history of French glass, from 1850 onwards, volume II, an encyclopaedia of biographies of makers, french glass terms and a chronology of French and world-wide developments in glass.

It will take a long time to assimilate all the information. However, for the first time in many years, I have begun to understand the major differences in glass production here in France, by comparison with other European countries.

One surprise is the inclusion of glass in architecture and furnishings, however Delaborde makes some very telling observations as to why.

It is not a small book, at 748 pages, with 2670 high-quality illustrations.
You will develop your muscles heaving the set on and off your bookshelves, as it weighs in at 7kg, 15.4lbs. :) :)

List price is 250€, though I have seen copies around the internet from 100€. However, this set is, imho, worth every last centime. Highly recommended.

Nothing beats books for knowledge and well worth the investment. Unfortunately there seems to be few people I have seen here who have gained from books instead of the info on the internet which sometimes is false. Thanks for the heads up on this set of books.

Thank you both for your comments. One thing about the set I like, is sufficient accurate information on the glass artists and companies, without becoming like a catalogue raisonné. The problem with catalogues raisonné is often that the items are never going to turn up in your local flea-market. If you really like the work of, for example Colotte or Marinot, fine. But one-offs go through auction houses here in France.
But a myriad of things, I did not know, such as the Etling glass family were deported from Paris during WWII and murdered in a concentration camp.

I am enjoying the new knowledge from the set.
