This K 98 Mauser bayonet was made in 1940, and was issued to the Kriegsmarine. This is evident by the letter O stamped by the serial number. The O stands for Ost See, which is the Baltic Sea. The blade has almost all of the original blueing, and the handle is reddish brown bakelite, an early form of plastic. The black leather frog is Kriegsmarine issue as indicated by the Kriegs stamp, an eagle over an M. The serial numbers on the blade match those on the scabbord, which is rare to find nowadays.
