Old folding Model-T mechanics' hood supports?

    ...at least, that is what the guy I got them from called them.
    Just under a foot long with no markings, turned-wood shaft and aged rubber (now stiff) suction cups on both ends.
    He said these were used back in the day when a mechanic needed both sides of those hinged hoods held up while he did his magic on the engine. The suction cups kept them from slipping out and letting the hood hit him on the bean.

    His explanation seems to fit, but they really could be anything, I guess. Has anyone seen the like and/or know what they are called?

      You believe everything you hear ? I would have laughed. We old guys like to do this sort of thing. LOL! My guess, would be for lapping valves .

      Nah, BB2 - only what I read on the internet....
      Its just that I couldn't shake the feeling that they were... something interesting. So I thought it was worth a shot. Lotsa knowhowhere as you and racer proved. Thanks!
