Look at his blue eyes & dimples! She looks so tired from birthing probably 12 babies.

Leslie Emery painted the original in 1950.

      Leslie was male.

"Hello-- I was delighted to see several notes about Leslie here. Have you posted a picture of the painting you bought? I shall try to remember about it. The painting "This is my Love" was done for the Dean family who lived in Pebble Beach, Calif. (There is also an interesting story that goes with this painting!!)Also close friends of my family.
Leslie was originally from Massachusetts. Most of his painting however was done while he lived in Carmel, Calif. The Carmel art assoc. would have the most information about him. Also, he was quite involved in setting up this association.
I shall look here for any more questions or comments on Leslie Emery. If I can be of assistance I shall be to happy to reply."

Such a fine painting - lucky you for having a lithograph. Really evocative of American Gothic. Paul Newman eyes.

Neat history too - thanks Celiene for the video, very interesting.

Happy that this didn't end up in rotten condition discarded at the curb.

Leslie EMery sold the painting to my father in 1950. 1195 my mother passed away and my older brother got the painting. After brother Jack's death his widow consigned the original to thecuttergallery.com in Las Cruces N. M. I have never heard the story about the Dean family, fathert bought TIML and a clown and dog painting from Emery at his studio or at a show (I was born in 1950, like the painting) in Carmel Ca.
There are several people claiming to own an original of This Is My Love, is it possible that Emery did a series of paintings on the same theme?
TIML was in print until 1980 and it appears that some new old stock prints remain.

by the way I provided Cutter with all the awards that TIML received, repro information, etc. they apparently did not make the conection between Tina Clower, John Clower and L. C. Clower and replied with something about keeping the family's privacy.

I have a reproduction of this painting that I purchased as a teenager in 1978-79. I made the purchase because the woman in it is so reminiscent of the women in my maternal line. The dark coloring and prominent cheek bones are similar and her expression spoke to me of their strength and resilience.
