Forgive the low-quality images. I took these for a school project back before I had a good camera.
This is a 1868 Deutsches Gesangbuch I restored. It's a German Hymnal. It was in over 12 pieces, and one page is still missing; the majority of the spine was gone. I put it together again, fixed-up the damages-- including ripped-out pages, torn pages, damaged and worn covers (look at the cardboard colour coming through the black,) ruined spine (replaced it) and other work. I got the book for free-- you can see why. LOL.
Part of the spine had become glued onto a cover, both of which were ripped off. As the damage was permanent, I flipped the covers around and hid it all as best as possible.
Materials used were all acid-free so as to prevent future problems. Acid turns the paper brown and makes it disintegrate. Older tapes, many glues, and other papers/objects on/in the book will also do this.
Tomorrow I will post a Bible I redid. This book took me a few hours. The Bible took me 5 and a half. It will be a post full of information.

This was the second book I had to do a total restoration on. The first I made look better than it did originally, actually. This one, as it is fairly old, I made original minus one missing page.
Germany was still not yet a country at this time.
