    Hi,
Given that these days I seem to spend more on glass-books, than glass, I'd like to share another acquisition with you.

This volume, on the glass from the Harrach works, was published in 2012, slightly in advance of the tricentennial. It is available in both Czech and English language editions.

Edited by, and with major contributions from Jan Mergl, significant essays from highly-respected Czech museum curators and art historians, this book gives an accessible and very readable history of the glassworks.

The book has a wide-ranging variety of glass, and every epoch is well covered.

The attention to detail is important, though for me, I would have liked more information regarding the period 1918-1990. But various truths are revealed, such as who was the first designer working with "Harrtil" glass, and no, not Milan Metelak, who eBayers credit with every piece of Harrtil.

440 pages and with over 1000 illustrations, both photographs of glass and pages from the pattern books, the book makes an important contribution to our knowledge of Bohemian/Czech glass.

Not over-priced at 80US$, a highly affordable addition to a reference library of glass.

I include a video link from the publishers web-site so you can get an idea of what is included.

    Enjoy.

I agree, this is a great book, and well worth the price. I look through it quite often. Thanks for posting about it!

Thanks for your comment, Michelle. I love books like this, which eliminate supposition, guess-work and myths, and remove errors from the record.
However, it does take a long time for the inaccurate information about various glass-works to disappear from history.

Growing all the time, Sean, biggest problem is the dust, as all wood-burning heating here, open the stove door and the air is full of ash....
But the book-moths detest the ash :) :)
Old books on glass, new books on glass, can never have too many.

As an old friend John Philip says, one good piece of glass found after buying a book, means the book has been paid for, two good finds and you are in profit :) :)
