Hi, I found this at the thrift store today for one dollar. (Sorry about the glare in the photos). It is 11" tall X 6" wide. The embroidery is very beautiful and appears to be on linen. The stitches are tiny, neat and even. If it is old, the colors are exceptionally clear and bright. The theme is Chinese I believe. The hanger is made of twisted string..It looks old but in very good condition. The label on the back is also in very good condition and Says "Fine Art Trade Guild" has an order no. 35899. Phone Balham 1767. Artists' Materials. C.E. PONSFORD. Fine Art Dealer 240 BALHAM HIGH ROAD LONDON, s.w. 17. Can't really find anything like it online.
I wondered if it is likely old and if it is familiar or has value?
thank you!
Lovely, but without the glare, it must be great! Nancy
Hi, thank you, it is. Actually, if you click on the first photo, it's clearer. regards
Pretty!
I have two pictures with the same C E Ponsford label on the back. My grandfather ran an art metalworking company in Balham High Road before, during and after the second world war so I guess he purchased the pictures in the 1930's or 1940's. I don't know when C E Ponsford ceased trading, but there were no phone numbers in the form shown on the label beyond the 1950's. That gives some idea of the minimum age of your embroidery.
Beautiful embroidery and those colours.
thanks for information and also comments!
