    katherines…
    (247 items)

So I'm no Julianna expert by any means, and I could be way wrong, however looking at these unmarked earrings and brooch, though they at first glance appear to have a lot in common, one is D&E and one is not. The earrings show all the typical signs, the brooch doesn't quite, to my eye. And to my eye, just looking at them, there is a gap in quality, front and back. It's a very pretty brooch, just don't think it meets the standard. Maybe the studying has paid off, maybe not. But if I had to bet, I'd bet yes on the earrings, no on the brooch. I hope you enjoyed seeing these pieces, and thank you for looking.

The earrings appear to be of a higher quality than the brooch, but all are pretty!

I can share a little of what I think I know that I use to help me pick out D&E pieces, the photos above may be useful. D&E used clips almost exclusively, not screwbacks or hooks. They used the wider heavier clips with holes as seen above. You also never see glue residue on their pieces as you might see on other costume jewels. The bases are sturdier, you can compare the bases on the earrings to the brooch which is somewhat flimsier. In other words look for quality of materials. This is also true of the stones, D&E used Swarovski for their rhinestones and Czech or Bohemian glass cabochons, if you look at the stones and cabochons on the brooch, you can see they are not up to the standards of the earrings. As far as design, D&E were the best, one of their signatures was how they mounted their stones closely together, hence the richness in the look, whereas the brooch, the stones are spread out evenly. D&E also worked in odd numbers, as you can see the earrings have three small stones and five marquis, marquis (navettes) were also a favored shape, as to the brooch, while it has groupings of three small stones, the rest of the design is in even numbers. As far as construction, look at the backs again, you can see how the brooch has spaced gaps in the settings, whereas because D&E liked their rhinestones mounted closely together, the settings are mounted on to each other which is another signature of theirs, the famous puddling. I think I'm safe to say the earrings are Julianna, where the brooch is not. :)

Katherine, I've studied the D&E bracelets extensively -- earrings and brooches, not so much; but I'm inclined to agree with you. But I will say both are absolutely gorgeous!

Thanks for the love, kivatinitz, Agram.m, and MyFavoriteTreasures. :)

Thanks, MFT, yes both are gorgeous pieces, the D&E are additionally of higher quality. I've studied D&E purely out of curiosity as to what makes them so much more superior to other lines of costume jewelry, and as usual its the little details that make the difference. :)

Thanks, Thomas, that was my aim, to team description with photos, the best way to learn here amongst ourselves, and for whoever happens across this thread. :)
