So I was told this was an umbrella handle, it's broken off, but there is a slot in the wood rod with what appears to be a metal mechanism inside. Anyway, the elephant is, or appears to be carved, and at first I thought it was celluloid because of the grain (pic #2). Looking at the sides (pic #3) and the base (pic #4) was what made me wonder if this couldn't be some sort of tooth or tusk, not ivory since it doesn't have the cross-hatching (Schreger lines), but maybe whale or hippo or ...? Or celluloid, lol. If any of you have an opinion, please feel free to share. Thanks for looking.

If it is made from one piece, other pattern may be only the swirls of the melted material :-)
