I remember this can being above the corn crib as I was growing up. When we tore down the crib it got moved to another barn. later in life when my parents sold the farm I decided to take the can with me. I believe it is some kind of oil can. There looks to be a stainless steel plate on it that reads; 5 Gal. Liq. to Lip of marker Inside. The lid is made of cast iron and screws on. The rest of the can is steel.
If anyone can help me know what this can was used for and or knows what it is, please let me know...

I have two cans that I have had on my front porch since 1972... I think they may have been railroad oil cans from the 1920's. Mine has the word Shell on them . My dad gave them to me & he was a conductor for the Santa Fe Railroad . Can't ask him about them ... he passed away back in 1987 .
