This, I am told, is an antique Victorian tortoiseshell manicure set in a traveling box from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. This set features a tooled leather case with a velvet and satin interior and 9 pieces of manicure accoutrements. The pieces are stamped with the maker's mark, but I can't identify the hallmark. I would LOVE any help with this. Also I'm not sure where, on the pieces, might be safe to test if they are true tortoise, so any suggestion would be wonderful! There is a lot of wear to the tortoise and the patterns are not uniform, so I am guessing it's actual shell, but am not certain.

Don't try to fly with it. They will steal it for sure.

O, Valentino97! That is heartbreaking! I'm so sorry that happened to you! I understand why they don't want animal parts traded, but I wish it could be different for vintage/antique items. I don't suppose there is a solid way to tell the difference between new/old items, for TSA agents. So awful, though!
I definitely wouldn't travel with this set. It's going to stay safe and sound; or I'll sell it. Haven't decided, yet!
Thanks, everyone, for the compliments and help!

Well, if you ever have to move and have to travel far with it, our wonderful Post Office will let it get through unmolested (wrap it up dang well, though, as all boxes get crushed, in layers of bubble wrap and a good size box.)

I'm in the aviation business, but not connected in anyway with security or "TSA" gov't. sanctioned thieves. Since they assume that they will never have to deal with the same victim twice, they brag about what they have stolen from passengers to us around the airport. I decided yrs. ago, that the only requirement for a TSA job, is total lack of moral fiber. They even make their own laws !

Boy, blunderbuss, you nailed this one too! What ever happened to thew clause about unreasonable search, warrants, etc? Everyone who studies this calls it Security Theater. It has never stopped one terrorist,, and has destroyed thousands, if not millions of dollars in private belongings. I don't think even the nazis could have gotten away with what these thieves do! GRRR doesn't begin to cover it. I think these idiots should be sued down to their personal bellybutton ling for all they've destroyed!

You're funny Upstate, but right! The Nazi Gestapo never had anything close to this power ! We watch & wonder if anything will ever be done to stop or curb their theft? Nothing seems to be showing over the horizon ! The Nazi's never even came close to anything like the TSA !! Scary !!

And just think of the millions of dollars we waste every year paying these crooks!
    10. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 9 years ago
Maybe they are family or pay to get their jobs as thieves! Has to be something crooked going on to become a gov't. licensed thief !! Wish I had those connections ! Forget that. I've never been a thief or wanted to be one ! Unless you are stealing food to survive, that's as low as one can go !
