I've had this vice for some time. It is not your average woodworkers vice. It really only seems to work with metal. It has a vertical lever that ratchets the vice strong. It is heavy, heavy duty.

There are no markings to speak of. Even underneath that I could tell. The Vice is about 12" long(front to back) and has a bite about 3" wide.

    Unsolved Mystery

I was shocked that I could not find another picture or any reference at all on the web. I must have the only one, ever.

"Ratchets", or cams ? An offset cam would be a good design. Fast & secure.

Your Cam Vise Design was made under the Hall's patent, in 1873, and assigned to the Charles Parker company. See patent link below, and Welcome to CW!.

Izen is completely correct. I collect vises, and this is very rare. My opinion is to retire it and send it out to the pasture to live out it’s life as a piece of art. What I wouldn’t do for one of these halls pat’d vises...I have been looking for more years then I can recal. Congratulations on owning such a wonderful piece!!

Hi, I don't know whether any other previous people who have commented on this vice are still members on this site. I have been trying to find a value for one of these vices and come to the conclusion that they are indeed rare. I have one which is 22 inches long so larger than the one featured in the article.
