No, this isn't from the Civil War. It is a real-photo postcard re-printed in the early 1900s from a Civil War photo, and was then colourised by hand (more or less it was.)

A few features to note: Second pic, lower left, an American flag. Right of that, a dead horse. A wide-gauge railroad at the far left. The plantation home is fairly damaged but intact, albeit it looks stripped of everything, and its windows appear to all be missing. There are many soldiers everywhere, all also hard to distinguish from the rubble.

This may or may not be going to a war-loving Texas friend. I kind of like it myself. LOL.

Many seem to be available in linen types, but this earlier version I have not seen before.

This is the cyclorama of the battle & located in Atlanta. Largest oil painting in the world & painted in 1886-7. Well worth seeing.

      How big is it?
    3. blunderbuss2 blunderbuss2, 9 years ago
13 m x 109 m long. Saw it as a kid. The painting blends in well with artifacts & ground layout. very well done as I remember. I did just see that it is no longer the largest oil painting. Hope the local kids haven't covered it with graffiti !

      Wow, that is huge.

A museum here has one that is about 2 stories tall, but that truly beats it!!
