I really like pieces that make a statement – and I think this bangle does.

I believe it is a vintage piece but the marks puzzle me a bit. The bangle doesn’t have the new marks with the letters for the cities and the artists and the registration numbers, but it also doesn’t have the older eagle mark. It is simply stamped with Taxco, Mexico, and Sterling and therefore cannot be traced to a particular craftsman. I don’t think it is machine made. So the question remains: What is it?

The bangle is in very good vintage condition.

    Thanks for looking:)

There was no official hallmarking system in Taxco until 1948, so I would imagine this bracelet predates that period.

It's pretty freiheit :)...I would think 60's or 70's. I have a few pieces marked exactly like this. Although I'm no expert just my two cents worth.

Val, I think I see a hinge in photo #3

Thanks for your comments and interest, valentino97 and davyd286. Yes, it has a hinge and I am lucky that it is in perfect working condition. It is 3 inches wide. There are bigger ones out there but it is still rather impressive :)

Mary, many thanks for your nice comment. Actually, my grandmother's name was Maria, but everyone called her Mary. All of my four girls share the middle name Marie. My husband liked that better, so we made a compromise. And yes, what's in a name really? The thing does really bothered me for a long time, though, is when telemarketers called and asked for Mr. Gudrun. But I am getting used to it -LOL
