Lovely old Nippon Green wreath Powder Box. Pastel colored flowers all outlined in gold. They spared no surface from gold with this lovely little box. The Makers mark on this one dates as far back as 1911, but it was used for a decent amount of time. I believe they finally stopped using this symbol late 40s- early 50s.
    :)

It is lovely...Since the backstamp reads "Nippon", we know it cannot be dated any more recently than 1921. I would love to get my hands on a complete Nippon Vanity set; which would include powder box, hair receiver, hat pin holder, and tray.

Hello and thanks Debbie80, I thought that mark let it be a little bit newer. So many sites with info and as always it's not always accurate. Thanks for the Love Gals / Guys!

PS, That would really be a nice find. I run into pieces all the time, never have scene a whole set except for crazy prices on e-bay.

From my understanding; the word Nippon puts it in the 30 yr time frame of 1891-1921. In March of '21, the US government decided that the word Nippon was a Japanese word and it needed to be changed to the English equivalent...Japan. Now, these wares can still have the "M in wreath" backstamp; but they will say Japan instead of Nippon. And we know if it says "occupied Japan", of course, it dates post WWII. Agreed on e-bay prices...and recently I've noticed an uptick of Nippon values; sellers market!
