I've had this for about 2 years (bought at auction) and haven't done any research at all. It's a quality piece, but the clear glass handles look like add-ons, and seem to be poorly executed afterthoughts. I can't recall seeing any other Greek myth themed cameo vases. I thought I'd share it, and if any info is forthcoming, so much the better.
It's about 11 inches tall, and the orange-red ground is cased with fairly thick clear glass. The casing is cut back and painted with a matte black enamel, and the outlines and details of the figures are made with the same black enamel. Cheers, Y'all!
very beautiful!!
This seems to be a Loetz 'Etrusk' vase, the same vase was offered 2013 by James D. Julia, a green example 2012 by Dr.Fischer. The applied handles are original.
Indeed, this is the vase from the Julia auction. They don't typically fail to identify something like this. I'll look at the Fischer piece.
The handles just seem so out of place. Thanks for your info!
The Dr. Fischer auction was in Mar.2012 lot 320
That is a lovely green. I note that the Fischer vase lacks the tall handle, and has only the two smaller ones. Which is the variant? Or perhaps neither? Now that I'm aware of the twin, I'll have to try and find one.
I have a red Rindskopf crackle vase - 12" - and its green twin was auctioned a few months back, but it went over my limit. So it goes. Thank you very much for the research! I hope I'll be able to return the favor! -Scott
